SSgt Kurt J. Upton, 25, from Niota, IL died around 5am on 3 June 1999 at Ft Bragg's Womack Army Medical Center after suffering brain and internal injuries when his MH-53J PAVE LOW helicopter dusted out and crashed while attempting to land during a training mission on a farm by Camp Mackall near Pope AFB, NC.
Kurt served seven years in the U.S. Air Force, and is survived by his son Kollin, wife Kathrine, and mother Rose Mary (McBride) Upton. Father Kenneth R. Upton (1946-2000) and brothers Keith Upton and Kenneth J. Upton (1967-1995).
